Why Was I Born?

Was I born to be good,
or was I born to be bad?

Is there any purpose
for me to be here?
Was I born for a purpose,
or for no purpose at all?

If there is a purpose for my life,
what is that purpose?
What am I living for?

How many difficulties does my life
still need to go through?
When will I reach my dream?
How will I get there?
Where does my future lie?
Will I ever get there?

WHY WAS I BORN?

  1. Ciza, it seems as though you are beginning to answer your question by being thoughtful about your own life. I believe that each of us can choose to live a purposeful life. You strike me as someone who is doing just that - choosing to do your best and fulfill your potential, no matter the difficulties that come your way. I've lived a few more years than you but I am still curious about what lies ahead in my future! Isn't that the fun of it though? Living life to the fullest and paving our ways toward futures we desire? Thanks for sharing this poem. -Miss H (PS: I never get to see you! Boo.)

  2. You pose some hard-hitting existential questions in this poem, Ciza. You are a deep thinker, indeed!

In this work, your thoughts unravel like a ball of yarn; you meet each unfolded question with an even wider one. I love that you never answer the question, but rather, you leave your readers to sit with all the questions. There is wisdom in that. Well done!
