A place that I want to visit
is a place where there are no
broken shacks, but homes instead.
A place where everyone is free
to dance and sing.
A place where there are no dead bodies
lying in an alley.
A place that I want to visit
is a place where there is no racism.
A place where there are no gangsters and prostitutes.
A place where there are no police,
because people of that place obey the law.
That is the place that I want to visit ...
Heaven.

Victor, I love this poem. I wish I knew of a place on earth like the one you describe here. In this writing, you demonstrate awareness of the social ills you wish to avoid.
ReplyDeleteI am impressed that, with just the ten minutes I gave you in class today, you wrote such a brilliant poem! Your presentation style in the reading aloud was also great.
Thank you for sharing this talent. I can't wait to read more from you.
10 minutes?! I couldn't write this if I had hours - I was moved and touched beyond all comprehension. I wanted to send a hug across the world to you! I agree with Katie - you have such an understanding of the way things should be - and with your writing I think you can be a GREAT advocate for change.
ReplyDeleteWe were very lucky to have Katie help us finish my daughter Mandy's dreams to teach there through her - Reading the work that her students produce shows me that God worked his magic and the right person is there with the students. www.TheKindnessRevolution.ME
