I could be dreaming
dreaming my life away
but what's the use?
I could sit
sit and dream I had a mother
but what if she dies?
I could sit
sit and dream I was rich
but what if I'm poor?
Can somebody tell me
what the use of a dream is?
I could just give up
on all that I believe in,
and all that I dreamt of
would be a tale to tell.
Can somebody tell me
what the use of a dream is?
I could be cut down to nothing
told that I'm good for nothing
and useless to this world -
and all that I dreamt of
would be like ice in my heart.
Can somebody tell me
what the use of a dream is?
I could be killed
murdered in cold blood
and all that I dreamt of
would be useless.
Can somebody tell me what the use of a dream is,
when anything could happen to me at any moment
and all that I dreamt of could be shattered to pieces?

This is a powerful poem, Shelly, because you've brought out the reality that we really don't know what is to come, what could happen to our carefully constructed plans. The fight for our dreams is exhausting at times. Since I always appreciate connection to the way things really are, I love this poem.
ReplyDeleteYou are a compelling writer, Shelly. I am happy you contribute to this blog.
Hi Shelly, you are right sometimes dreams can look useless and many times dreams do not happen. But many times dreams DO happen.
ReplyDeleteDreams are very important for everybody: without the dream there is no vision outside the reality. Many times the reality is difficult or very difficult;Dreams allow to see outside the reality, dreams allow to have hope and see something better for our lives. And many times if you believe and work hard to make your dreams become reality, then your dreams will HAPPEN. Keep dreaming good things and work at them and good things will happen. A dreamer,Cedric
