As I walk around my township
I see so many wrong things
People stealing and hurting each other
People controlled by greed and cruelty
BUT who am I to judge
People wasting their opportunities
Throwing their lives away
BUT who am I to judge
People take dangerous risks
Make the wrong choices
Not thinking about tomorrow
Not thinking about who is affected by this
whose heart it's going to break
BUT who am I to judge
Who are YOU to judge
When every day you do one of these things
-Shelly Zinyama
Oh, Shelly, I am SO glad to see this poem here! I loved reading it when you first wrote it during our holiday workshop. It is such a good reminder about making good choices for oneself, as well as refraining from judging others for the choices they make. Thank you for reminding me, you wonderful poet. -Miss H.
ReplyDeleteVery insightful poem, Shelly. I love the way you turn the poem at the end, inviting others to refrain from judgment, just as you have challenged yourself throughout the work not to judge others. Our communities can be so confounding at times, and you put this into words so beautifully. Thank you.
